Farm Dog Bakery is located at 1204 Broadway, Longview, Washington (map this), founded in 2003, and is a small not for profit social enterprise whose emphasis is on two main factors: Fabulous Dog Treats and vocational training opportunities for persons with disability. The Bakery is operated jointly by LifeWorks / ADC Pathways to Employment and the Longview School District special education department to assist adults and students build marketable skills with the result of competitive community employment for persons needing special support and training.
Farm Dog Bakery - Healthy Dog Treats!
Our customers are dogs and their owners. The furry canines enjoy the atmosphere of freshly baking chicken and beef scents while their owners enjoy a good conversation with the enthusiastic and helpful clerks. Our Bakery is open for business Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, and 10:30 am to 4:30 pm Friday, Pacific time, during which we are mixing, baking, labeling, and packaging our fresh treats for the local as well as for the larger internet community of dog lovers. Our Farm Dog Treats include BBQ Ribs, Bacon & Cheese, Cheese, Farm Dog Chix, Fetch, Garlic Chicken, Peanut Butter, and Sizzlin Beef, with a Special Birthday Bone (significantly larger 1 lb. bone shaped Dog Treat) of any flavor available. Vocational Training - Healthy Lives!
In August of 2008, the Longview School District and LifeWorks / ADC Pathways to Employment entered into an Inter-local Agreement with the intent of providing vocational opportunities via a retail business which specializes in the production and sale of Fresh Dog Treats - Farm Dog Bakery is that vehicle.
Making the treats in a retail store front provides many opportunities for vocational training including customer service, cashering, stocking and facing shelves, chef, baker, weighing and packaging, distribution, dishwashing, and basic janitorial skills, that our clients and students can take with them into the work place with confidence.
Training, teaching, and supporting persons with social disadvantages until they are ready to go it on their own creates a rare win / win / win situation. For the individual using the services of either Longview School District or LifeWorks / ADC Pathways the win is becoming gainfully employed and more self-reliant within the local community while building a stronger sense of accomplishment and confidence. For the employer the win forms as state / federal hiring policy compliance and the ethical support of the disadvantaged local persons. Finally, the Job Coach / Training people within LifeWorks / ADC win with another successful placement of their clients.
